Serving the Community

Lions are ordinary people who do extraordinary things to help others and support good causes throughout Ireland. Globally we have more volunteers in more places than any other service club organisation, and love to help others and make things happen.

In 2017/18, Lions Clubs International celebrated its centenary.

Lions Clubs supports a range of good causes and projects in its area where you can get involved. Every day Lions are having fun by organising remarkable and memorable fundraising activities. Every year in Europe alone, Lions Clubs’ members volunteer around 6 million hours of service and raise £88 million to support the needs of local communities.

The Ballsbridge Lion Club Golf Classic took place at the K Club on Bank Holiday Monday of Saint Patrick’s weekend in aid of Addiction Recovery Ireland charity. With a shotgun scramble start, 24 teams battling it out with Dr. Stephen Carroll getting a hole in one.

We raised €12,000 for charity.

The team that won was Maynooth Killcock’s Lions Club captained by Scott Wallace. Their prize was four framed landscape photographs of Dublin and the surrounding county sponsored by Baggot Framing. The raffle envelopes from the dinning tables made €1,500 for prizes that included a night in Ashford Castle. Meals vouchers from Langkawi Malaysian restaurant Baggot Street, a 4 ball at the K Club prize, a 4 ball at Headford Club also.

Dinner afterwards included a singer Sean Boland who did a great job of singing Easy listening music from a variety of artists, including Frank Sinatra, Michael Bublé, Nat King Cole, Dean Martin and Perry Como.

We wish to thank our teams for participating, the Tee Box Sponsors which brought in nearly €5,000 alone. The support from fellow lions clubs, Bray Lions Club sponsored a tee box, the Edenderry and Maynooth Lions Club for entering teams, it was great to get their support and fellow Lion Liam Meade for supplying the goodie bags.

Fundraiser 10th November 2018

Ballsbridge Lions Club donates €11,000 to the Linen Guild charity at the National Maternity Hospital.

Today, the President of the Ballsbridge Lions Club, Farrell O’Boy, presented a cheque for €11,000 to Julie Anderson of the Linen Guild at the National Maternity Hospital. This donation comprises the proceeds of the Ballsbridge Lions first-ever fundraising event, an old-fashioned drinks party on November 10th.

For over 100 years, the Linen Guild at the National Maternity Hospital has supported mothers who are under severe financial stress and have nowhere else to turn. This discreet charity provides much-needed practical and financial assistance to the most vulnerable mothers and their newborn babies in the hospital.

Ballsbridge Lions President Farrell O’Boy said, “We are very pleased to support the excellent work of the Linen Guild. This practical, caring charity has been looking after women in crisis for many years. The members of the Ballsbridge Lions Club appreciate that this charity is run on an entirely voluntary basis and that every penny donated to the Linen Guild goes directly to the mothers and their newborns.”
